Extract of a letter from Talbot Court House, dated Feb. 11.
This being the first year that the birth-day of our great
and worthy general hath been announced to the public, Henry
Hooper, Esq. Lieutenant of Dorchester county, Maryland, with
a respectable body of the truly patriotic officers and
gentlemen of that County, and also several officers of the
Maryland line, assembled at Cambridge, to celebrate the
auspicious day which gave birth to the great defender of
American liberty . . . [24 lines, dinner, 13 toasts]  The
entertainment concluded with the following song, composed by
an American.
  In a chariot of light from the regions above,
  The Goddess of Freedom appear'd;
  The sun beams of day,
  Emblazon'd her way,
  And empire American rear'd.
